"Welcome To My Composition of Skins"
some issues
Published on July 21, 2007 By Noiram In Skinning
Hello to all that love Xion. I am creating my first skin and have about 75% of the buttons all done but wanted to check my work in progress. My first question is about loading the skin. How I did it, and I'm not sure if this was the right way - copied the .psd file and used windows explorer to paste it in the Interfaces directory. There must be a better way but it's not in the tut I have.

The second issue is, and could possibly be related to the first, when I loaded my skin, the whole skin was about 50% transparent and hard to see although the buttons work like a charm.
I am using photoshop, could someone please point me in the right direction
Thankyou

your first question..... in Photoshop, I go to File, save as, and browse to the interfaces folder and just put the .psd in there like that. Easy!!!

Question 2...... unless you set that transparency in Photoshop, then the only other thing I can think of is that the setting might have been changed in Xion's configuration window. Right click your skin, choose configure xion, then click the "components" tab, highlight the shimmer interface section at the top of the list, then click options at the bottom and make sure the slider is set all the way to the right... (Opaque).

If that don't fix it, come back and we'll delve further.......

Thankyou very much
sometimes I overlook the simple stuff, yep, works wonderful.
I've been using some of your skins, "love em" and thats why I thought it would be fun to give it a try. Well, still have alot of work to do and I'll probably be back to this post again for more help.
Again, Thanks so much

No problem, happy to help. Remember, if you would like me to check out your skin before you release it to see if it can be tweaked, then feel free to email it to me at boxxi@wincustomize.com and I'll happily give it a work out for you.

Good luck!!

Hi Noiram,

I just wanted to give you a bit more info to your first question. I don't know if you have found this out already.

If you want to use a personalized font with your skin, all you have to do is include it with your skin by doing the following:

+ Create a directoy for your skin.
+ Find the font you would like to use.
+ Place the PSD file and the font file into the directory.
+ Highlight the two files. Do the following:
+ If you have WINRAR, right click the files and select "Add to archive...". When the window appears, change the extension in the filename box to .xsf and click OK.
+ If you have WINZIP, right click the files and select WinZip > Add to Archive. Change the filename extension to .xsf as in the last example.

Voila! You should have a Xion executable skin file. Double click and enjoy!

Hey guys..,
I usually just drag the PSD file on to the Xion player, to check if the skin is working as I wanted. And if I work on and update the PSD, I just need to restart the Xion to see on the changers I have made applied properly on Xion. I'll only zip everything up and change it to .xsf format once all the design work are good and done

But maybe it just me

And what if you're using your own fonts? Does Xion find them in your fonts directory if you just use the PSD file?

This also is the way I do it.

As long as they are in window's fonts, they should apply. If it is a special font I just keep it in the folder that I am building the skin in.
